Newcastle United targeting AC Milan starlet

M'baye Niang - AC Milan Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for AC Milan forward M’Baye Niang this winter.


The 20-year-old has recently stated his intentions to continue his career with the Rossoneri for the time being, as he hopes to earn a starting place in Pippo Inzaghi’s squad, but has still attracted the attention of several outside clubs including the Magpies in the recent weeks leading up to the January transfer window


According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Newcastle are preparing to make an offer to AC Milan in hopes of securing the French talent’s signature in January, but may have a difficult time landing him based on the desires of both the player and the San Siro outfit.


Reports also suggest that Udinese could make a bid for the former Caen man, though a transfer to the Zebrette is seen as unlikely at this time.


Niang, who spent the second half of the 2013-14 campaign on loan at Montpellier, has made three Serie A appearances this season thus far.

Manchester City set to pursue Juventus defender

Lichtsteiner - Juventus Manchester City are reportedly ready to pursue Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner during the January transfer window.


The 30-year-old, who is currently set to be out of a contract with the Bianconeri in June, has drawn the attention of a number of Premier League teams as of late including Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, though it seems the Citizens are now prepared to enter the race for his signature as well.


According to Quotidiano Sportivo, Manchester City would still be interested in making a bid for the Swiss international despite his ongoing negotiations with Juventus to sign a new contract in the coming weeks and could present a considerable offer in order to lure the defender away from the Old Lady this winter.


The right back, who joined at Juve from Lazio in June 2011, has scored two goals and provided four assists in his 15 Serie A appearances this season thus far, giving him a total of 12 goals in his 106 league appearances for the Turin giants since his arrival.

A year in Italian football – Looking back on 2014

After plenty of controversy, failures in Europe and an abysmal World Cup campaign, there are many Italian football moments to look back on this year, although only a few to be seen in a positive light.


From bananas to scarves, and unknown player ages to debt-filled clubs, there is plenty to talk about when re-living the Italian football moments of 2014.


Donadoni Parma Poor Parma


At the end of last season, three teams were in contention for the last European spot available to Italian sides, two of them being Parma and Torino.


In their last game of the season, when a win would have made them qualify, Torino drew with Fiorentina after winger Alessio Cerci missed a last-minute penalty, meaning Parma finished sixth in the Serie A table and qualified for the Europa League, or so they thought.


It was then revealed that Parma had withheld a €300 million tax bill and their appeal against this accusation in court had been refused. Therefore, Torino got the Europa League place instead of the Gialloblu.


Parma’s troubles didn’t stop there, though. When Roberto Donadoni announced he would carry on as Parma coach, fans of the club were delighted due to his success the previous season.


However, at the end of 2014, they sit last in Serie A with just six points having won only twice, drawn once and lost a worrying 13 times this season, as well as being docked a point after more financial issues.

Roma midfielder rejects Liverpool

Radja Nainggolan Roma Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan has turned down the opportunity to join Liverpool and is keen on staying with the Giallorossi.


The 26-year-old Belgian international is currently co-owned by Roma and Cagliari, however the capital club remain interested in signing the player outright and will address his contract situation as soon as they acquire the Isolani’s half of Nainggolan’s rights.


According to reports in Il Tempo, Nainggolan rejected the chance to join Liverpool in a deal that would have seen the tireless midfielder earn around €4 million per season, but he is seeking an increase of his current €1.5 million salary at Roma and it is rumoured that he would want to double his present earnings.


Nainggolan has spent his entire professional career in the Italian game having started out with Piacenza, where his performances were noted by Cagliari and he sealed a move to the Serie A side in 2010.
