Lazio in pole position to land Ansaldi

Lazio are looking to add depth to their backline for the 2016/17 season.

Cristian Ansaldi was a player that flew under the radar for most of his career. He left New Boys in his homeland of Argentina in 2008 and spent five years at Rubin Kazan until moving to Zenit St. Petersburg in 2014, then loaned to Atletico Madrid for a season, then ended up in Genoa where he’s found his niche.

Now, Lazio is in full rebuilding mode and is looking for a solid leftback for the next campaign. Inter dropped out of the race yesterday due to Genoa’s asking price of €8 million, but Lotito and Lazio are undeterred and moving forward.

According to Il Tempo, Lazio are in the lead over Milan and Roma for Ansaldi and perhaps another highly sought after target in Argentina, Gustavo Gomez (22 years old).

Ansaldi last year played in 25 games for Genoa, but contributed a lot in terms of counterattacks and crosses.

Could Van Persie Be On His Way To Lazio Next Season?

Reports surface that the Biancocelesti  have proposed an offer to Fenerbahce for the Dutch striker.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Turkish media outlet Haberler reported that Lazio have made a €10 million offer to Fenerbahce for Robin Van Persie. The offer will be divided into two separate payments. Lazio will pay the first €5 million up front and the other half will be paid in June 2017. The only stumbling block in a potential transfer being sealed is the Dutchman’s wages. The former Manchester United star is making €5 million a season in Turkey, a salary out of Lotito’s price range.

Van Persie hit double digits in goals for the 6th consecutive time in his career, scoring 16 goals in 31 appearances for the Turkish club.

Zidane: ”I Could Return To Juventus One Day”

The former Juventus legend opens the door for a potential return in the future to the Turin club.

Juventus holds a special place in Zidane’s heart. He collected 6 trophies in 5 years at the club, including back to back Scudetti before leaving to join the Galacticos of Real Madrid. While at the inauguration of a 5-a-side football complex named Z5 in Mappano (Torino), an initiative which he financed as he has done in others parts of Europe according to the Quotidiano Piemontese, the current Madrid coach and Champions League winner hinted that he could see himself back with the Bianconeri in the future:

There is a special feeling with Juventus. You never know, one day I could return to Turin on the bench. I would also like to become manager of the French National Team. We will see.

Juventus have grown a lot in the last few years. They can win everything and do well in the Champions League but I am currently the manager of Real Madrid, therefore it is better if we win.

Zidane also gave his opinion on Morata, Pogba and the Italian National Team:

I have not followed Italy that much but in competitions that count, the Azzurri are always there. The EUROs can be won by a surprise team, not a favorite.

On Morata:

He has grown in Italy, he has also played well and a lot. I do not know what will happen. He has done extremely well at Juve where they would like to keep him for another year. We will see what will happen in the summer. The moment to talk about it has yet to arrive.

On Pogba:

He is a great player. It is normal that all the big clubs want to have him but he is a Juventus player and we have to respect that.

On Dybala:

After Pirlo and myself, the number 21 jersey is now on his shoulders. He is doing well, I do not know him personally but they have told me that he is a bright lad with his head in the right place. That is important.

On Juventus’ interest in Isco:

Isco is a Madrid player and will not move. We have just finished the season and have yet had the time to talk about the transfer market or about the players Juventus are interested in.

Italo Zanzi Steps Down As Roma CEO

Roma’s Italo Zanzi announces that he is stepping down as CEO at the club.

As reported by Roma’s official website, Italo Zanzi announced today that he has resigned as the club’s CEO and is also leaving his seat on the Board of Directors.

Three and a half years ago, I had the honor of becoming CEO at Roma. Today, with the club in a great position, I have taken the decision to pursue new endeavors.

I would like to thank AS Roma and President James Pallotta for this opportunity, as well as the ownership team and Board of Directors for their support. I am equally appreciative of our management, the staff and the players for their dedication and hard work. They are among the very best in the world of football.

Fabio Cannavaro: ”It Is The Duty Of All Coaches To Say Yes To Italy”

Fabio Cannavaro believes all managers in Italy should accept coaching the National Team if given the opportunity.

In a recent interview on Italy’s Mattina 9, World-Cup winner and Ballon d’Or recipient Fabio Cannavaro spoke candidly about the difference between the pool of Italian players available in Lippi’s time and those available during Conte’s reign.

The lack of available talent in today’s National Team is a question of choices. In 2006, Lippi had at his disposal 66% of Italians, today there is about 36%. Less players means less talent. Those who are in the National Team today deserve to be there. The problem is there is no focus on youth development. There are not many Italian players that emerge from the system and the preference is to buy players from abroad instead of developing talent at home.

On the vacancy at the helm of the Azzurri:

It is the duty of all managers to say yes to Italy. I had an important past with the blue jersey and I will return to Coverciano, but I do not know when.

On today’s Napoli squad:

It is the strongest since the Maradona era but I also liked Mazzarri’s team because it was composed of players with great technical and human qualities. Sarri’s Napoli has made it entertaining for the fans, a lot of points and a lot of goals. It just lacked a bit of ruthlessness in decisive moments

On there being only one Napoli player heading to the EURO for Italy:

Insigne had a tremendous growth this year. It is not easy being replaced every game but he always reacted in a great way. For me, I wish for him to become the club leader in the future although for a Neapolitan, it is difficult to play in the shirt of their team. This is how it works: If the boy next door makes a mistake, you have to punish him for it. This happens to everyone though, not just at Napoli, it is the norm.

On his memory of the World Cup Final in Berlin:

We were strong but we were not the strongest. Lippi told us from day one that we could win the World Cup. After the Final, it changed all of our lives. To go from regular players to legends. It was a fantastic experience shared with extraordinary lads. We were young and reckless, today we realize how important it was.

Criscito denies any link with Roma

Zenit leftback Domenico Criscito spoke to TeleRadio on a potential move this summer.

The 29 year old ex-Italy defender has played abroad in Zenit for several years which has damaged his chances of a call to the Azzurri, and was not even named to either the training camp or the 30 man provisional squad by Conte.

“With our new coach Lucescu we’re aiming to win everything, he’s a great coach and we have the hunger to do well. I haven’t heard from neither Roma nor mister Spalletti, there haven’t been any contacts. However, I’m very happy for him, since he’s returned to the Giallorossi he’s done incredibly well, bringing Roma back to a high. The national team? I’ll cheer for Conte’s team, I hope they can win the Euros.”

Criscito played in 35 matches in all competitions this past season with Zenit St. Petersburg.
