Cagliari offer contract to Diakite

Free agent Modibo Diakite has been offered a contract by Cagliari as the Sardinians attempt to strengthen Gianfranco Zola’s squad before the passing of this evening’s transfer deadline.

The French defender has extensive experience of playing in Italy with Pescara, Lazio and Fiorentina, and it was understood that he was close to agreeing terms with Sampdoria.

However, Sky Sport Italia believes that the Rossoblu have approached the player and that they are now in pole position to sign the 27-year-old.

Diakite, who has also played in England, has been without a club since the turn of the year when he was released by Spanish side Deportivo de La Coruña.
