Filippo Inzaghi: “I can’t blame one specific player…”

AC Milan manager Filippo Inzaghi spoke to Sky Sport after the 0-0 draw against Chievo at the Bentegodi.

He began: “The possible penalty on Destro? From the field, it seemed clearer, but it was a difficult thing to judge. We did better in the second half, and hit the crossbar with Honda, we had to be more cynical. In the first half, we were struggling to find the forwards, it’s not easy to play against Chievo, a team that has to stay in Serie A and close up defensively. We might have deserved a goal in the second half, but we see the glass half full. It is the second time in a row that we have not conceded a goal.”

“My substitutions? My sub to take out de Jong for Cerci was risky, but we wanted to win the match. I put Bonaventura in the midfield and I already lost Montolivo. I tried to play with four attackers, I also felt bad that Cerci almost didn’t get subbed in because of a last second injury.”

Pippo then continued on Alessio Cerci: “I think he can be a great second striker, or even a playmaker if he was in better shape. I’m sorry to leave him or Pazzini on the bench, but there can only be 11 players on th pitch. Today we played with four strikers and I want to try to get Cerci back into shape in order to improve his play. If I hadn’t lost Montolivo, he would have been my first sub.”

He closed the interview on Mattia Destro saying: “We were supposed to be better in the second half. I can’t blame one specific player. Destro’s chance? He had very good off the ball movement, and I tried to get him to come out to the left a bit, but he instinctually moved back to the middle after a bit of time.”

Milan might have won their match last week, but this is another disappointing result this week for the Rossoneri in this catastrophic season.
