Three Things We Learned from Juve’s Defeat

Juventus have certainly not started their campaign off on the right foot. In fact, for the first time in history, the Bianconeri lost the home opener.

And only for the 7th time in their history, they lost the first game of the season, quite a terrible way to make history for Max Allegri’s men, right after their Champions League finale appearance.

But of the many events that took place during the game, the top three things that we can take away from Juve’s defeat could bring positive changes for the rest of the season.

Sousa: “I try to learn the good habits from others.”

Paulo Sousa spoke after his team were victorious over Mihajlovic and his AC Milan side in their 2-0 triumph this Sunday evening.

“We started off well. The lads got on the pitch with the right attitude. It was an important match for us and playing this way is really good for us.
Joaquin had a problem with his abductor muscle and it is for this reason he didn’t play. Those who played did well.”
What kind of coach are you?
“I am a coach that always wants to get better. I try to learn the good habits from others. Mourinho? He is a winner and I will always be in thanks because he opened the door for Portuguese coaches.”
How is Rossi?
“He is feeling really good. I had the desire to let him play as a substitute. He is working hard. He is a very important player for us and our club. I hope sooner than later he can return to play with continuity.”
Iturbe is a target of yours?
“My objective is to worry about who is at my disposal.”
You hope Joaquin remains?
“He is very important to me.”

Reina: “Not easy to win at Sassuolo”

Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina looked on the bright side after his team’s 2-1 defeat away to Sassuolo on Sunday evening.

“We can leave here with our heads high,” said Reina. “No one will find it easy to come here to Mapei Stadium and get a win. We need to grow as a team and follow the directions of our new coach.”

“Our fans have a fundamental affect on us,” added Reina. “For Napoli-Sampdoria I expect a tremendous San Paolo.”

Jovetic: “The three points are a confidence boost”

Stefan Jovetic scored a brilliant 93rd minute winner against Atalanta as Inter got off to a winning start in the opening game of the season.

The Montenegro striker spoke after the game to discuss his first game for Inter, his fitness and the targets for the season.

“I’m delighted, it was a tough match against an Atalanta side that defended well. We pushed right until the end, and winning at the death like that was fantastic. I’m not at 100% yet but it’s important for strikers to score so I hope to keep it up. The main thing is that the team has won – the three points are a confidence boost.

“I hope Mauro’s OK and can play against Carpi, because we need all our players. Our goal is to qualify for the Champions League so it was important to start well tonight. We still need to get to know each other better, but there’s a tough away match ahead before the international break,”

“It’s too early to talk about that. We have a good side and want to do as well as possible and finish in the top three.”

Chiellini: “We Are Going Through A Period Of Renewal. Patience is Needed.”

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini spoke to the media following his side’s disappointing defeat against Udinese at home.

In his post-match interview Giorgio Chiellini spoke about the upheaval at the squad and stated that he believed it was a necessary step. The veteran defender told Tuttomercatoweb,:

“We could have and probably should have scored a goal. Instead, we conceded a goal on our first mistake. It’s difficult to talk about a game like this. We must keep working and remain patient and we must build off the solidity that we displayed for the first seventy minutes of the game. In that part of the game, they couldn’t even get out of their own half. We are currently going through a necessary rebuild. We must be patient but this doesn’t mean that we do not intend on winning. When we have the full team at 100%, it will be a different story.”

Juventus will now travel to the Stadio Olimpico where they will take on Rudi Garcia’s Roma in match-day two.

Sarri: “Mentality needs work.”

Newly-appointed Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri spoke after his team squandered an early lead to end in a 2-1 defeat to Sassuolo on Sunday evening.

“We need to mature with regards to our mentality. We’ll be working on that. The referee didn’t influence the match at all. In the second half we lost our lead and went down right when it looked like we could have controlled the match.”

“Sassuolo are a team with their patterns and timing already all worked out, we on the other hand are under construction. Still, I already saw glimmers of my style of play today.”

Allegri: “We Lost But I Didn’t Think We Played Bad.”

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri spoke to the media following his side’s disappointing defeat at the hands of Stefano Colantuono’s Udinese.

Despite the surprising defeat, Allegri didn’t think his side performed that poorly and blamed poor finishing for the loss more than anything. In his post-match interview with Sky Sport, the former Milan boss said,:

“I liked the team’s hunger and desire to win today as we played with attacking impetus. Towards the end, we lost our shape a bit and conceded a goal on their first chance of the game while we failed to take advantage of ours. It’s disappointing because we wanted to start off the season on the right foot but it wasn’t meant to be. We will need to be patient but it’s not like we had a bad, first game even if the result says otherwise. Moreover, playing against Udinese is never an easy task.”

When asked about Kingsley Coman, the Juventus tactician said,:

“He’s a young player who was born in 1996. He did some interesting things but has to improve with his decision making in the final third. He will have time to grow this season just like the other young players who recently signed. When Dybala came in for him, he did well but to play the whole ninety minutes you need to be fully fit.”

Allegri continued his interview by saying,:

“The team did what they had to do for seventy minutes. The only thing that was missing was the goal. We conceded a goal in a situation that we could have defender better. It’s a shame that we started off the season with the loss but we know all about the difficulties of the new season. We have a lot of new players, as well.”

The manager was then asked if he is satisfied with the team he has at his disposal. Allegri said,:

“The team I have is ready to have a great season. We were missing a few players but those who played did well. It’s normal, however, that when you have new players you need to be patient.”

He was later asked a similar question and frustratingly said,:

“To keep talking about those who left makes no sense. We have to play differently than we have in the past. Now, we will have to play to our strengths like we did tonight.”

Allegri also spoke about the possibility of having Juan Cuadrado in the team and if it excludes the acquisition of a trequartista. He told reporters,:

“I am not saying anything in regards to the transfer window. I’m in no state to talk about it. Now, I can only talk about the game. The team didn’t deserve to lose.”

When asked about the idea of playing Pereyra as the side’s attacking midfielder, Allegri said,:

“Yes, I played him there often last season but there are fifty five games and the same players can’t play every game.”

Galliani: “Balotelli last chance and he knows it”

Adriano Galliani confirmed that Milan is in talks with Liverpool over a loan deal for Mario Balotelli one season after the controversial Italian striker left the club.

Balotelli scored 30 goals in 54 games in an 18 month spell for the club before being shown the door by the club after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Galliani also confirmed a deal for Ibrahimovic is unlikely and that an offer for Roberto Soriano had been made and it was up to Sampdoria to decide.

Galliani on Balotelli

“We are in negotiations with Liverpool for Balotelli, but we haven’t agreed upon how his salary will be paid.”

“If Balotelli returns to Milan, then it will be his last chance, and he knows it.”

GDM reported that Mario Balotelli is in Brescia awaiting a deal to be finalized as the two clubs discuss a 50/50 split over the Italian’s salary. Milan want a loan deal although Liverpool would like to include a clause in the contract to make the deal permanent.

Ibrahimovic

“Ibra? It’s very difficult. I think that he will stay at PSG.”

Roberto Soriano

“We have made an offer for Soriano, and we won’t change it. It’s up to Sampdoria to decide.”

“If Soriano doesn’t arrive, then we won’t sign anyone else. If he does arrive, then one of our midfielders have to leave.”

Colantuono: “Great Game. We Did Good To Capitalize On Our Chances.”

Following his side’s impressive victory at the Juventus Stadium, an elated Stefano Colantuono spoke to the media about the win.

The veteran tactician was extremely happy with his side’s result and made it very clear in his post-match interview with Premium Sport. Colantuono told reporters,:

“In games like these you have to be able to capitalize on our chances and we succeeded in this respect. We were very good because we knew it would be very difficult to get a result here. We also know that Juventus are a top team but he had a great game. We were compact in defense and left no space between the lines. That said, it was inevitable that we would concede some chances. In the second half we did better and we could have easily doubled our lead on the counter.”

The Udinese boss was then asked about the performance of Bruno Fernandes. Colantuono said,:

“He’s a player with interesting offensive qualities but I’ve already told him that if he wants to succeed, he will have to improve defensively.”

Bonucci: “The Goal Was Missing. We’ll Go Far With This Attitude.”

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci spoke to the media following his side’s surprising defeat at the hands of Stefano Colantuono’s Udinese.

In his post-match interview with Mediaset, the former Bari man told reporters that he was happy with his side’s play and lamented the fact that they couldn’t find the back of the net. Bonucci said,:

“Udinese scored their goal on their first chance of the game. We weren’t clinical enough and at times, our final ball was lacking. If we continue to play with this attitude and hunger, however, we will go far. Now, we will go to Roma knowing that we will come up against a very strong side. We have the characteristics to go there and do well.”

When he was asked what was lacking from today’s game, Bonucci said,:

“The only thing that was missing was the goal. We created a number of chances. Our fitness was surely not lacking as we were in top shape.”

Match Winner On The Night, Thereau: “Three Important Points.”

After scoring a late goal for Udinese and securing the three points at the home of the champions, Cyril Thereau spoke to the media.

In his post-match interview with Mediaset, the veteran Udinese forward spoke about the importance of the result. The Frenchman told reporters.:

“We struggled a lot in the first half but we did enough to keep them at bay. In the last twenty minutes, however, we were still level at 0-0. Juventus went for the win and left plenty of spaces to exploit. I’m very happy to have scored in this stadium. It’s always very hard to score here because they have top defender who are also aggressive. In the final stages of the game, we made them run. My goal was really important as it give us the change to start the season with three, big, points.”

MATCH PREVIEW: Milan take on Fiorentina

With the opening week of the 2015/2016 Serie A campaign on the horizon, Milan look set to take on Fiorentina in what should be an interesting fixture between the two sides at the Artemio Franchi.

After a rather intriguing transfer market for the Rossoneri, La Viola will be keen to snag 3 points off of Milan, despite the loss of what seemed to be a big blow in the form of former coach Vincenzo Montella. The last time these two sides went head to head, Fiorentina came out on top with a 2-1 victory as Joaquin scored the winner in the 89th minute to earn his side all 3 points.

MILAN

Coming off the back of an interesting pre-season, winning the Trofeo TIM, but taking loses to the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, as well as Tottenham Hotspur in the Audi Cup, the former Italian giants will be looking to get off to a good start this season in an attempt to regain their title as one of Italy’s best after bringing in the likes of Bacca, Bertolacci, Romagnoli, and more.

Probable lineup (4-3-1-2): Lopez; De Sciglio, Ely, Romagnoli, Antonelli; Bertolacci, De Jong, Bonaventura; Honda; Luiz Adriano, Bacca.

FIORENTINA

Fiorentina are entering the new Serie A campaign in hopes to compete with the likes of other top Italian sides in the fight for European qualification. Although losing a key factor in their back to back 4th place finishes (Vincenzo Montella), La Viola have put on quite a wonderful display this pre-season, defeating the likes of Barcelona & Chelsea, and seem determined to carry that form over to the 2015/2016 Serie A campaign. Although losing the likes of Neto, Savic, Gomez, and Salah, Fiorentina have brought in Luigi Sepe, Mario Suarez, as well as have a healthy Giuseppe Rossi. A few key factors to their season will be their very promising youngster Federico Bernardeschi, and whether or not the seemingly injury prone stud, Rossi, can stay strong and keep fit as the season goes on.

Probable lineup (4-2-3-1): Tatarusanu; Tomovic, Rodriguez, Astori, Pasqual; Borja Valero, Suarez; Joaquin, Fernandez, Ilicic; Babacar.

Player to watch – Carlos Bacca

After a successful pre-season for the Colombian international, Bacca will be looking to continue to impress as the Serie A campaign is just a day away. Although entering a new league, Bacca’s previous tally of 20 goals last season in Spain along with winning the Europa League is not something to brush off and will be keen on impressing a new crowd.

Despite being late to the party in terms of when the player began his professional footballing career, Carlos has appeared to have shown what it takes to make a proper contribution to the Rossoneri in their journey on redeeming their stature as one of Europe’s best.

Prediction: Fiorentina 1-2 Milan
