Inter have confirmed the signing on their official website.
Santon came through the youth ranks at the Nerazzurri before breaking into the first team under Jose Mourinho in 2009 before going on to make 40 appearances for the Milan club.
The 24-year-old made a bright start to his career in England and made 82 appearances for The Magpies, however the Italy international has struggled for playing time under the current Newcastle regime.
Santon was impressed by the impact Roberto Mancini had in taking the player back to Milan, as the coach specifically chose to bring him to the club.
The left-back has made eight appearances for the Azzurri, with his last cap coming in the draw against the Netherlands in Amsterdam on 6 February 2013.
