Raiola: Galliani tried to bring Conte to AC Milan

Mino Raiola Super agent Mino Raiola has revealed that AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani attempted to sign Italy coach Antonio Conte.

It did not turn out successfully of course, as Galliani instead appointed Filippo Inzaghi to take the AC Milan job.

Raiola explained that talks had occurred last summer and it seemed like a deal was close until Conte pulled the plug.

“Conte would have been ideal for the Rossoneri and their project and I persistently courted him during the summer,” Raiola said in an interview to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I seemed to have convinced him, but in the end he felt the AC Milan situation was too complicated.

“But basically Conte could not break away from his Juventus ties and instead preferred not to cross that threshold, given his history as player and coach.

“Instead the Italy job allowed him to retain some neutrality, which perhaps was what he needed.”

With the issues with the Italy job and his contract expiring in 2016, there have already been reports linking various clubs with interest in hiring Conte.
