Roma could be set to launch a deadline day move for Lille’s French midfielder Rio Mavuba who is said to be keen to leave the Ligue 1 side.
The 30-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the current season and he is a player Giallorossi coach Rudi Garcia is very familiar with having been in charge of Les Dogues from 2008–2013.
TuttoMercatoWeb reports that Garcia has told sporting director Walter Sabatini of his interest in Mavuba and may be keen to get him to Stadio Olimpico straight away as cover for the injured Kevin Strootman.
Strootman faces another spell on the sidelines due to his troublesome knee and Mavuba’s desire to link up with his former coach could be key to any potential deal.
