Roma Trade 3 Points For 3 Injuries In Carpi Victory

Roma returned to form with an emphatic 5-1 victory vs newly promoted side Carpi this weekend

– however it has come at quite a significant cost.

Rudi Garcia had to make three forced substitutions during the course of the match, due to players sustaining injuries as it progressed.

While the Stadio Olimpico celebrated Roma’s return to high goal scoring performances, the consequence of this result may be detrimental in the long-run.

Roma have now confirmed the expected recovery times for the unlucky trio.

Edin Dzeko – 3/4 Weeks

Francesco Totti – 1 Month

Seydou Keita – 2/3 Weeks

With all three players expected to miss at least two weeks of football, Roma have been left scarily short of options across the board.

With De Rossi recently filling in at CB for the injured Rudiger and Castan, and Strootman still yet to return from a long term injury, Vainqueur may have to start in the midweek Champions League fixture.

The 26-year old Frenchman made his debut replacing the injured Keita, after moving to Roma from Russia in the summer.

The combination of Dzeko and Totti’s eliminates Roma’s two preliminary striker options, causing Rudi Garcia a serious headache.

Gervinho who looked sharp against Carpi, and netted himself a goal, may be deployed in the striker role as it is a position he has played before – Iturbe could also be tried there.

One small silver lining for Roma is that Tuesday’s Champions League fixture is against the group minnows BATE, a favorable tie considering the selection problems they are facing.

Roma, Totti: Extent of the injury unknown

AS Roma issued a press release on the status of Captain Francesco Totti.

Totti, who was one of the three players who suffered a knock in the 5-1 win over Carpi is likely to sit on the sidelines for a period of time.

The report:

“Francesco Totti underwent a medical exam today, which confirmed an injury to his right thigh.

The Giallorossi captain was forced off the pitch in the second half of Roma v Carpi and will undergo more tests in ten days to see how long he’s expected to be out.

Here’s what the Giallorossi medical team had to say on the injury:

“After hyperextending his thigh in yesterday’s match, our tests on Francesco Totti showed up exudate around the injured ischiocrural muscle in his right thigh. The exact extent of the injury will be confirmed in ten days, following regulation examinations.”

This news confirms that Totti will miss the UEFA Champions League game against BATE Borisov.

BREAKING: Edin Dzeko Out 3-4 Weeks

Edin Dzeko will be out of action for three to four weeks after an injury sustained to his right knee during Roma v Carpi.

Here’s the report from the Giallorossi medical team:
“Following a knock to his right knee, Edin Dzeko has picked up a first-degree strain to his medial collateral ligament. He’s expected to be out for three or four weeks.”

Roma take on BATE Borisov in the UEFA Champions League this week before taking on Sicilian side Palermo in the weekend.

After this weeks games, the international break begins, therefore, Dzeko shouldn’t miss more than 5 games.

Gasperini boasts “Deserved win” over AC Milan

At the end of the match, Genoa’s head coach Gian Piero Gasperini spoke to Premium Calcio on the win over Milan.

“Paradoxically we played very well in the first half, we had an excellent game, closing it out 1-0 deservedly. In the second half, numerically superior (due to Romagnoli’s sending off) we dropped off, but it’s also because of a better Milan. We risked something in necessity, we could not take advantage of the spaces that were presented. I believe that Genoa was better than Milan we played better. Milan, Ely shares his disappointment following the loss to Genoa

After the loss against Genoa, Rodrigo Ely was interviewed by Milan Channel and had this to say about the match at the Marassi.

“We’re really disappointed, we wanted to give continuity after the two positive results. We played bad in the first half, in the second we played for our pride.”

“The missed chance? It was a really hard ball to get on target. It’s a shame, it would have been really nice to equalize”.
