Montella: Fiorentina suffered against Genoa

Montella - FiorentinaFiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella has stated that his side suffered in their draw against Genoa.

La Viola drew 1-1 with Gian Piero Gasperini’s men, and the former Roma coach stated that his side found it difficult against the Grifone.

“Genoa’s players are very skilled,” he told Mediaset Premium. “They run a lot and they’re strong.

“We suffered tonight, some players wanted a rest but it was hard to do that because of the injuries and suspensions, especially in midfield.

“Genoa’s physical level was on a higher level tonight because they relish space, while we favour tight encounters.”

Montella then went on to say Mario Gomez did not feature due to the Coppa Italia quarter final tie against Roma on Tuesday as well as speaking about losing Juan Cuadrado to Chelsea in the transfer market.

“Gomez? On Tuesday we have a really important game in the Coppa Italia,” he said.

“It all happened very quickly with Cuadrado, but we’ll get used to his absence, I’m sure we’ll do fine without him.

“It’s hard to find players of Cuarado and Joaquin’s quality, but we’re expecting strong reinforcements.”

Finally, the Fiorentina boss dismissed that any contact took place with Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya.

“I know nothing about Montoya,” he concluded.

Fiorentina’s upcoming Serie A game will be at home to Atalanta on February 8.
