In an interview with Sport Week, Palermo midfielder Franco Vazquez revealed how he was close to returning to Argentina and why he decided to remain with the rosanero squad.
“Last January I thought of returning to Argentina where I had already demonstrated what kind of player I was, and I knew there would have been several clubs ready to take me. Then (Giuseppe) Iachini arrived and everything changed.
“What did he tell me? A few words after our second day of training. ‘I saw you play and I don’t understand how you did not play regularly till now. I will make you part of the squad.’
“No coach had ever spoken to me like this. In that moment I knew my future was here. What will happen after the summer? I do not know. I signed a contract and now I am only thinking about finishing this season well.”
