The 22-year-old moved to the Rossoneri from English Premier League heavyweights Chelsea at the beginning of the season, but has struggled for consistent playing time.
“We thought of van Ginkel during the last transfer window, but the boy refused our proposal,” de Boer explained in a press conference.
“We were in an emergency, so we focused immediately on [Daley] Sinkgraven instead, because he immediately agreed to come to Ajax.”
The Dutch giants acquired 19-year-old Sinkgraven from Eredivisie side Heerenveen for a fee of €6.5 million, after van Ginkel rejected the Amsterdam club’s offer, to remain in Italy.
