Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez has expressed his ecstasy at scoring both of his side’s goals in the 2-0 win over Roma on Tuesday night.
La Viola overcame Rudi Garcia’s men at the Stadio Olimpico to reach the semi-final of the Coppa Italia, and the German international has stated that the goals came following a difficult year which saw him endure many injuries.
“Reaching the semi-final is an achievement for the whole group,” he told Rai. “Last season we lost to Napoli here at the Stadio Olimpico in the Coppa Italia final; maybe we can reach the final again this season.
“The goals have come after a difficult year for me personally; I worked hard in order to get back to full fitness, and my physical condition needed so much work.
“We deserved to win tonight; Juventus in the semi-final? We’ll be ready.”
Fiorentina are set to host Atalanta in their upcoming Serie A game on Sunday February 8.
