According to an informal study published in the Wall Street Journal, Juventus are currently the most popular team in Europe.
The study surveyed football fans from 45 different European countries. To some surprise, Juventus turned out to be the most popular team in 21 of those 45.
Among the countries pledging much of their allegiance to the bianconeri are Sweden – Zlatan Ibrahimovic having played for Juve early in his career – and the Czech Republic, homeland of Juventus legend Pavel Nedved. But the Italian champions also find a strong following in Russia, Romania, Estonia and Albania, countries which do not have a strong historical link to the club but have fallen in love regardless. Paul Pogba’s impressive performances have raised the team’s popularity in France, though not into the very top spot.
The second-most popular team in Europe according to the survey is Barcelona, claiming 11 of the 45 countries studied.
