Sampdoria blocked deadline day move for Obiang to Spanish giants

Obiang - Sampdoria After losing one key man in Manolo Gabbidiani earlier in the January window, it has been revealed that Sampdoria steadfastly refused to sanction the departure of another, Pedro Obiang, before the transfer deadline passed on Monday night.

The Spanish midfielder has become a pivotal member of SiniĊĦa Mihajlovic’s high-flying Blucerchiati side this season and the player’s form has not gone unnoticed around Europe.

Il Secolo XIX reports that the Sampdoria hierarchy had to fend off sustained interest in the 22-year-old from Spanish giants Valencia who were offering to pay €2 million to take Obiang on loan until the end of the season when they would then complete a permanent transfer for a further €6m.

Obiang has been capped at youth level by La Roja and has been at Sampdoria since 2008, moving to the Italian side after coming through Atletico Madrid’s academy in his homeland.
