Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri spoke to the media following his side’s disappointing defeat at the hands of Stefano Colantuono’s Udinese.
Despite the surprising defeat, Allegri didn’t think his side performed that poorly and blamed poor finishing for the loss more than anything. In his post-match interview with Sky Sport, the former Milan boss said,:
“I liked the team’s hunger and desire to win
today as we played with attacking impetus. Towards the end, we lost our shape a bit and conceded a goal on their first chance of the game while we failed to take advantage of ours. It’s disappointing because we wanted to start off the season on the right foot but it wasn’t meant to be. We will need to be patient but it’s not like we had a bad, first game even if the result says otherwise. Moreover, playing against Udinese is never an easy task.”
When asked about Kingsley Coman, the Juventus tactician said,:
“He’s a young player who was born in 1996. He did some interesting things but has to improve with his decision making in the final third. He will have time to grow this season just like the other young players who recently signed. When Dybala came in for him, he did well but to play the whole ninety minutes you need to be fully fit.”
Allegri continued his interview by saying,:
“The team did what they had to do for seventy minutes. The only thing that was missing was the goal. We conceded a goal in a situation that we could have defender better. It’s a shame that we started off the season with the loss but we know all about the difficulties of the new season. We have a lot of new players, as well.”
The manager was then asked if he is satisfied with the team he has at his disposal. Allegri said,:
“The team I have is ready to have a great season. We were missing a few players but those who played did well. It’s normal, however, that when you have new players you need to be patient.”
He was later asked a similar question and frustratingly said,:
“To keep talking about those who left makes no sense. We have to play differently than we have in the past. Now, we will have to play to our strengths like we did tonight.”
Allegri also spoke about the possibility of having Juan Cuadrado in the team and if it excludes the acquisition of a trequartista. He told reporters,:
“I am not saying anything in regards to the transfer window. I’m in no state to talk about it. Now, I can only talk about the game. The team didn’t deserve to lose.”
When asked about the idea of playing Pereyra as the side’s attacking midfielder, Allegri said,:
“Yes, I played him there often last season but there are fifty five games and the same players can’t play every game.”
