Palermo coach Giuseppe Iachini has praised both the Rosanero and their opponents on Sunday, Sampdoria, as the two revelations of the Serie A season so far to date.
Both sides have been highly impressive to date, with the Blucerchiati in third and the Rosanero in eighth, and Iachini believes the positions are well deserved.
“Two points lost during our first match? A regret, but it is part of the game,” Iachini stated at his pre-match press conference when asked about their first encounter which saw the Liguria side find a 91st minute equalizer.
“On other occasions we were the side to win at the end. Sampdoria deserves the position they have, but honestly I was certain that [Sinisa] Mihajlovic and his squad would do well.
“For the direction of the two squads you can talk about two ‘revelations’ of the season. But we still have to grow a lot.
“Our opponents certainly have something more in terms of experience and knowledge of the championship.
“They were in the Serie A last season, while we must still grow and mature.”
Iachini also commented on the situation of defender Ezequiel Munoz, who was not called up for Sunday’s squad amidst reports he could leave the Rosanero in January.
“Over these days of talks he couldn’t have been relaxed and so would not have performed as per usual.
“I will see how things are week after week but there are no requests from the club.
“It is a situation dictated by rumours, to play football you must be relaxed.”
