Nerazzurri boss Roberto Mancini is keen to strengthen his central defensive options despite an injury to captain Andrea Ranocchia not as serious as first feared.
La Gazzetta Dello Sport are reporting Inter are interested in taking the France international on loan for the remainder of the season, with Los Blancos unwilling to entertain negotiations for a permanent transfer for the highly rated youngster.
The 21-year-old has started just six games for the European Champions this season, meaning a loan move could benefit the development of the former Lens defender. Varane has made 48 appearances since joining Madrid for around €10 million in June 2011.
Mancini has been linked with a move for Porto defender Rolando in recent weeks.
