Inter captain out for two weeks

Andrea Ranocchia Inter Inter have been boosted by the news that team captain Andrea Ranocchia’s knee injury is not as serious as first thought.

Ranocchia hurt his left knee during the goalless draw against Empoli on Saturday.

The player was withdrawn from game after half-time with suspected ligament damage, leaving coach Roberto Mancini fearing that the defender may not be available for a substantial period of time.

However, the defender underwent tests on Sunday at the Instituto Humanitas di Rozzano that have revealed that the player has not suffered any ligament damage, and should be back in a couple of weeks.

A post on Inter’s twitter account read: “Tests have confirmed that Andrea Ranocchia has suffered no knee ligament damage.”

However the 26-year-old, who has made 21 appearances for Inter this season and scored two goals, is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks.
