Zola: Morale has improved in Cagliari camp

Gianfranco Zola

Cagliari coach Gianfranco Zola has stated that his side’s victory against Cesena raised his players’ morale ahead of the Coppa Italia tie against Parma on Wednesday.

Zola was dealt a 5-0 loss in his first game as coach of the Sardinians against Palermo, but stated that the 2-1 victory against the Cavallucci Marini on Sunday improved the atmosphere in the camp.

“The morale has improved,” he said. “The victory against Cesena changed the atmosphere amongst the players.”

The former Napoli man then went on to say that captain Daniele Conti is fit to face the Crociati in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia tie.

“Conti? He was rested on Sunday, and is fit to feature against Parma,” he confirmed.

Zola then went on to speak about new signings Duje Cop and Josef Husbauer.

“Cop can play as a striker or on the wing,” he said. “Husbauer is an attacking midfielder.

“It is possible that they might play against Parma.”

Zola concluded his words by saying that even though the Ducali sit at the bottom of the Serie A table, his approach to the game will not change.

“It’s true that they are going through a tough period,” he said. “However, that won’t change my approach to the game.

“The match against Parma is a good opportunity for me to know the players more, and give playing time to those who have been featuring sporadically.”

Cagliari are currently in 18th place in the Serie A standings, two points away from 17th placed Atalanta.
