Fiorentina to target FC Basel’s Xhaka?

With former FC Basel manager Paulo Sousa being named to the same role with Fiorentina, the Portuguese boss could look to bring one of his former players with him to Italy in Taulant Xhaka

The former Inter and Juventus midfielder turned manager, Paulo Sousa, will arrive to Italy to replace Vincenzo Montella who was sacked last week. The 44-year old Portuguese man will have a tough task ahead of him trying to “one-up” Montella, who had done a good job during his tenure with the viola. However, Tuttomercatoweb has hinted that perhaps it would be wise for Sousa to bring in a former player of his at FC Basel to help make the transition to Serie A a little easier.

Albanian international and the older brother of Borussia-Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka, 24-year old defender Taulant Xhaka could be a target for the Italian outfit come this summer. The club, according to Tuttomercatoweb, is looking for players to fill in on the outside and Xhaka could be the one to do that. At this time, its uncertain as to whether or not both parties have weighed the opportunity to reunite, however we have seen many times a manager bring in players who they know well so it would not shock anyone if this was to happen here.

Xhaka was a main player under Sousa last season with the Swiss club, making 40 appearances across all competitions, seven of which came in the UEFA Champions League.
