The Numbers Behind Juventus’ Transfer Window

Over the last month, Juventus have been among one of the more active players on the transfer market having brought in Sami Khedira, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic. The question, remains, what has it cost them?

While Juventus have already purchased Mandzukic, Khedira, Dybala, Rugani and are expected to redeem Roberto Pereyra from Udinese, the club does not intend to stop there. We cannot also forget the imminent investment in Sassuolo’s exciting pair of Domenico Berardi and Simone Zaza. Seeing that this will be the first year that the club will have autonomy in regards to merchandising and licensing, they are interested in signing a player that makes the fans dream and changes the game within the blink of an eye. In essence, they are looking for a player worthy of their iconic number ten. Bringing a player of this quality may prove difficult but may be made possible with a few sales.

Today, Benedetto Minerva from GianlucaDiMarzio.com, released a report breaking down Juventus’ expenditures so far in the transfer market and touched upon what may come next for the bianconeri. In his report, he outlined the cost of Juventus’ purchases and how they affect the club’s upcoming budget. In addition to this, the article identifies the Italian giants’ need to balance the books by selling a few of their players.

As of right now, Juventus have spent approximately 61 million euros on new players. (32 million for Dybala, 15 million for Mandzukic and 14 million for the redemption of Roberto Pereyra) Furthermore, the Italian champions are expected to spend a further 25 to 30 million euros on Simone Zaza and Domenico Berardi. This would bring the club’s spending spree to around 90 million euros. Moreover, the new acquisitions will likely cost Massimiliano Allegri’s side 45 million euros on next year’s budget. With that being said, Carlos Tevez’ expected departure will free around 9 to 10 million euros.

In order to raise further funds, Juventus have put a few players players on the chopping block. Fernando Llorente, Angelo Ogbonna, Simone Pepe, Luca Marrone and Mauricio Isla have all been deemed expendable. Their sales would cut annual costs at the club by an additional 28 million euros. Andrea Pirlo’s expected departure will also contribute to this fund. Should the club be able to move these players as well as find a way to move the wages of Romulo, De Ceglie, and Storari they will have 24 to 25 million euros more to spend on the year. The increase in their annual budget would allow Juventus to push on and continue improving the squad. The Turin based giants will reportedly target an attacking midfielder which has been on Allegri’s wishlist for quite some time now.

Following an incredible season for the bianconeri that almost saw them win the treble, Juventus fans can continue to dream. Soon enough, they may find themselves with a new hero.
