By: Marianne Iannaci
With six goals in nine Serie A games, this Calcinate striker has been finding the net with ease since kick starting his club career with AlbinoLeffe in 2012. Belotti succeeded in scoring ten goals throughout his time in Serie B before moving up to Palermo, where his confidence and aggressive game play has remained consistent. Internationally, an impressive 14 goals has come Italy’s way after his call up debut to U-19 in 2011. Belotti’s performance led him to the Azzurinni just last year, where his striking aggression is seen to be a huge asset for the team and for the future.

Who Is Belotti?
He’s a young striker with an aggressive touch; first debuting with Serie B club AlbinoLeffe in 2012 and then proceeding to win Trofeo Dossena as the team’s top scorer, a rival between clubs broke one year later resulting in a 50/50 ownership. Palermo generated interest and succeeded in co-signing with AlbinoLeffe of the player in 2013. Palermo’s 50% acquisition later overturned as they brought on Belotti fulltime in 2014, where he was once named Man of the Match and ended the season with a total of 6 goals- two of which were scored in his first game with Palermo. His last Serie A game of the 2015 season resulted in a win, after Belotti fired a goal in the 95th minute, bringing Roma to defeat.
Although the 2015 Azzurrini team is struggling to deem themselves victorious, Belotti has delivered many scoring chances this season, creating several opportunities for a win. He’s one of the leading U-21 midfielders with phenomenal shooting form, despite the team’s losses over the past few weeks. With a goal at least once every two games, the Azzurrini surely finds the player vital for any future success.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Similar ratings and statistics have carried the striker throughout his club and international career, proving that consistence is key. Belotti’s goal percentage has remained the same during both U-20 and U-21 seasons with Italia, with a hopeful means to improve this year. Completing a play evidently comes easy. He reeks of determination and strives to finish. Favouring an aggressive style, Belotti excels in anticipating a play and courageously acting on it. A niche for heading and concentration add to his agility, ultimately giving Belotti an all-around positive name.
With great bravery comes a great potential to pull fouls. Tackles and a sense of defensive forwardness cause various calls on the player’s behalf. Belotti has conjured up a decent tackling rate, reducing his level of versatility. He seems to only excel has a mid, since his defensive tactics are less than a proper style of play. With a narrow vision, strictly for effective goals on net, the striker’s capabilities may be heavily weighted on a single position.
2015-16 and Beyond
Belotti remains on the Italian U-21 for the 2015 season, with likely hopes of advancing to the national team. The 21 year old will have to move forward after this year with the Azzurrini. As for his club commitment with Palermo, Belotti’s future may head down different roads. Interest from various teams may draw a move from the Serie A club, otherwise his future with Palermo may find itself successful. For a player thing young, with plenty of talent and lots to learn, any team would be lucky to raise a striker fit for a national team in the near future.
