With only medicals separating Jackson Martinez from A.C. Milan and Ibrahimovic in the cross-hairs, the future of El Shaarawy and Menez remains unclear
Last week, it was announced by FC Porto’s president that Jackson Martínez was on his way to the Rossoneri, giving proof to earlier reports that Milan had matched the €35m buyout clause on the 28-year old Colombian international. With Martínez currently in Chile for the Copa America, the player could undergo the proper medicals that would make the transfer official, however it’s still unclear as to when the move will be finalized as Adriano Galliani has more moves on his plate, one being the pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s Zlatan Ibrahimović.
The Swedish international is wanted back in Italy with the club who he helped win the Scudetto with back in 2010-11. The negotiations for the 33-year old striker are still on going so it’s something to keep an eye on. However, should Milan land both Martínez and Ibrahimović, where does that leave Stephan El Shaarawy and the club’s top scorer from last season, Jeremy Menez?
With Sinisa Mihajlovic expected to be announced as the new manager of the club, many have pencilled in a change in formation that could exclude wingers, a 4-3-1-2. If that were to be the case, it could be difficult to find time for both El Shaarawy and Menez especially with the arrival of two expensive strikers. As mentioned in an article on Tuttomercatoweb, Mihajlovic managed to find a balance in including Eto’o, Eder, Muriel and Okaka last season, however none of those names have the track record of a Ibrahimović or Martínez with the exception of Eto’o so it’s apples to oranges at this point.
Because neither Martínez or Ibrahimović have officially put pen to paper on a move to the San Siro outfit, its a concern that is probably on the back burner for most Milan supporters as well as the club officials. However, its worth recognizing the logjam that could come of these two arrivals so it would be wise to be proactive in thinking of what’s next.
