Recently it became public news that previous Milan captain, Paolo Maldini, became co-owner of Miami FC, a new club that will play in the North American Soccer League (NASL) in 2016.
NASL is the second-tier football league in North America, below the Major Soccer League (MLS). The aim for Miami FC is to make it into the MLS over the next couple of years.
Maldini said in a statement earlier this week:
“Miami has been my second home for 15 years, so I look forward to spending more time here as co-owner of Miami FC. We believe that the fast-growing NASL will be the perfect platform to develop a successful team and a valuable business.”
The ex-rossonero retired in 2009 and has been linked back to a return to Milan. However, it seems his intentions are to remain in Miami.
Goal.it has reported that Maldini may look to put Alessandro Nesta behind the bench of the new Miami FC squad. The two were teammates at Milan and Nesta already has a home in Miami. He also played a season with the Montreal Impact and already has good understanding of the MLS game.

Maldini and Silva are backed by a group of international investors led by Antonio Barreto, who is a longtime sports and media entrepreneur who will serve as the CEO of the club.
