Lazio manager Stefano Pioli was humbled for the second time this week, falling to Chievo 4-0.
In what many considered the most surprising result of the second week of the season Lazio were beaten from start to finish by Chievo. There were no bright spots to speak of. The embattled manager spoke to Lazio Style Channel following the game to provide his thoughts on the events that took place.
“We must get together to figure out what’s wrong because we cannot move forward with what we had on the field. This is not Lazio.
It is not acceptable and not what we had to do following the loss on Wednesday. I even made choices to inspire them and to bring a gritty and spirited performance on the field.
Now we will stop talking about the consequences, it is true that we failed in our objective. Crying or thinking about what we could have or should have done is good for nothing an no one.”
While it was encouraging to hear Pioli take responsibility and speak of accountability there was a lack of direction in terms of improving the performance moving forward. He spoke of keeping your head down and working hard and looking forward but provided no plan. With the International break ahead of him Pioli has much work to do before welcoming Udinese to Rome on September 13th.
