How Roma Could Line-Up This Season

Rudi Garcia is preparing for his third year in charge of the Giallorossi, and after failing to close the gap to Serie A champions Juventus last season, Walter Sabatini the director of football at the club has targeted the English Premier League for new signings.

Roma have completed loan deals for Wojciech Szczesny from Arsenal and Mohamed Salah from Chelsea in the last few weeks. Edin Dzeko has completed a medical today where his move from Manchester City will be completed this weekend.

Wojciech Szczesny

Despite keeping 16 clean sheets last season in Serie A, Morgan De Sanctis looks to have lost his place as first choice goalkeeper with the loan signing of Szczesny from Arsenal.

The Poland International arrives at the club on the back of a disappointing season with the Gunners where he lost his place in the team to David Ospina, and with the arrival of Petr Cech this summer he has slipped further down the pecking order.

Key Stat: 47 clean sheets in 132 Premier League games

Mohamed Salah

The performances of Gervinho, Ljajic and Juan Iturbe disappointed many Romanisti last season, and with that Francesco Totti was often without service in key games.

After much controversy over the summer over which Serie A club he would join, Salah signed for the giallorossi on a loan deal for the 2015-2016 season. Last season with Fiorentina he played a key part in another successful season for the Viola.

Key Stat: Nine goals in 26 appearances last season

Edin Dzeko

Last season Roma struggled in front of goal with their top goalscorers Adem Ljajic and Francesco Totti scoring just eight goals each. With Doumbia struggling to adapt to Italian football and Rudi Garcia’s lack of faith in Mattia Destro, a new number 9 was needed.

The Bosnian was limited to just 28 appearances last season due to injuries and the impressive form of Sergio Aguero.

Key Stat: 50 goals in 130 appearances for Man City

The final piece of the puzzle?

Lucas Digne

The departure of Jose Holebas to Watford means Ashley Cole is the only available left-back to Rudi Garcia. The former Chelsea player has struggled to adapt to Italian football and with that Lucas Digne has been rumoured to make the switch to the Stadio Olimpico.

Digne played under Garcia for two seasons for Lille and his performances for the club earned him a move to French giants PSG. However, the Frenchmen has struggled to establish himself as first choice left-back ahead of the veteran Maxwell.
