Gonzalo Higuain’s transfer to Juventus will be historic for Serie A.
A good deal for all parties? Juventus get a world-class striker immediately and Napoli get a tremendous fee for their striker. Higuain set the record last season for goals in Serie A in a single season. Beating the legendary Gunnar Nordahl for his total in a year from nearly 60 years ago.
Juventus are rumored to bring the Argentine in on four-year deal worth €7.5 (£6.3) million per season net. Meaning he will be the highest paid player in Serie A as well.
Napoli will receive €90 (£75.3) million over two years making him the second most expensive transfer in football history.
Juventus, if they close the deal, will only be dwarfed by Real Madrid’s signing of Gareth Bale for €100 million. A major signal for Italian football has been sent.
Higuain was signed by Napoli from Real Madrid after the Partenopei sold Edison Cavani to PSG in 2013 for €38 million. Napoli’s profit off the striker is significant, and is a major feat for their economical side as well. Though it may not feel like a win for the fans, Napoli in their way have made history, too.
