The Lombardy club hope to claim one of the spots in Lega Pro next season left vacant by a promoted club from Serie D.
In light of the promotion spot vacated by Sporting Bellinzago, Lecco will present their application tomorrow for admission into Lega Pro for the 2016/2017 season, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb. The Blucelesti finished 2nd in Serie D’s Girone B last season, behind Piacenza but won their Playoff Final beating Seregno. Their reward for the victory put them second on the list of clubs seeking to enter Lega Pro as replacements for promoted or current clubs who fail to register for next season. Due to Caronnese renouncing their registration attempt, earned after winning their Playoff Final in Girone A, this opens the door for Lecco to pursue their dreams of returning to the third tier for the first time since the 2011/2012 season.
Although they have their fingers crossed, along with having the checks ready to pay for the registration, there is one obstacle sitting in their way. Equitalia, the collection institution, must approve the club’s current €600k debt to be paid in two installments. Lecco hope they will receive the thumbs up from the institution to then move forward with submitting the proper documentation for admission.
