Gomez has turned down an offer from Wolfsburg saying he wishes to leave on free transfer
According to La Gazetta dello Sport, La Viola have stated that they would be willing to accept a slightly lower fee closer to 6 million, but so far only Wolfsburg have shown interest.
The German striker has discouraged Wolfsburg interest as he stated that he wishes the finish out the last year of his contract with the Italian club and leave on free transfer in 2017.
The 31 year old is coming off a solid EURO 2016 performance where he scored 2 goals in 4 matches.
Gomez spent last season on loan with the Turkish club Besiktas, but has stated he does not want to return due to the political situation in Turkey.
