Today, Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus claimed the three points against Genoa and began their climb up the table following an indifferent start.
Juventus won their first Serie A game of the season today against Genoa and finally put their season in motion. Massimiliano Allegri was satisfied with the result but believes Scudetto talks are a bit premature at the moment. The veteran tactician caught up with reporters from Premium Sport and said,:
“It was a nice victory because it was the first one. On Tuesday, we ran a lot but the team did well so that it didn’t affect them today. The win against Manchester City didn’t influence this game whatsoever. They are two different competitions. Today, we played an attentive game and we did well to remain organized in defense. As a result, we didn’t concede a single shot on goal. We could have done better when we were a man up but the team deserved to win. We will try and get to the top three as soon as possible.”
Would you like to see a brilliant Juventus side in attack?
“Today, we created a lot but our final ball was lacking. We must approach everything calmly. There are a lot of new players who have arrived and I can’t pretend as if the team has an offensive approach right off the bat. The team did well not to conceded a goal today as it has been a while that we haven’t gotten a clean sheet.”
On Morata’s injury –
“We’ll see what it is but I have heard that he went out with abdominal pain. When you play with intensity, these things are normal. We can’t forget that we also have Dybala and Zaza. We have a large squad but it’s important that everyone is ready to sacrifice.”
Why did Pereyra come in for Morata and not Dybala?
“Morata had abdominal pain and Pereyra could play between the lines. This was the reasoning behind my choice.”
Is there a reason behind all these injuries?
“In regards to abdominal injuries, I am not well versed. I have to ask our medical team. Only Khedira and Marchisio are out but they will return shortly. Injuries in my team have always been my fault therefore I enjoy hearing what everyone has to say about them. The only thing that matters, however, are the results.”
You didn’t change much in comparison to the game in Manchester. Why?
“We have only been together for ten days and haven’t played many games. Bonucci was dropped because he’s played every single game this season including the ones with the national team. Hernanes played the last two games and it could have been dangerous to play him if he wasn’t at 100%. I really liked Lemina.”
Did Pogba play like a leader?
“He defended well and did what he knows how to do.”
How did Lemina play at the base of midfield?
“He can improve but he played well. It was a selection I made because today’s game was always going to be a physical affair. Hernanes played against Chievo and Manchester City and needed a rest. His position is in front of the defense. At Marseille, he played on the outside of the midfield and even as a center back. I compliment him in the same way I will compliment the rest of the team. We have all the time in the world to recover even if our play must improve.”
Zaza hasn’t gotten much playing time. Why?
“Today, he came on. He has to integrate himself better. He’s improving and is doing better in training. He’ll have plenty of time to play.”
Thoughts on the Scudetto race –
“Inter are the favorites alongside us and Roma. It depends on the league table but right now Inter are doing really well. We are behind and we must be realists, it’s useless to talk about the Scudetto today.”
