Roma’s shot stopper Morgan De Sanctis conducted a post match interview with the club’s official website after the 5-1 win against Carpi.
Speaking on the heels of the tough 2-1 loss to Sampdoria, De Sanctis was all smiles after the dominating performance.
Did Roma try that bit harder today to prove that the loss in Genoa was undeserved?
“I think it was clear we didn’t deserve to lose on Wednesday to anyone who saw the game and saw how we played. Samp just took full advantage of a couple of situations. We needed to win today, we wanted a victory at all costs and we got one by playing really well, especially in the first half. Early on in the game, when it was still goalless, there was just one mistake that led to a shot by Borriello that might have got to us psychologically. They didn’t score it and then we went and scored three. Apart from that early episode, everything went perfectly.”
You saved a penalty too.
“Let’s say it’s been a week in which I haven’t exactly been helped to do my job, which is training and saving goals. But that’s how football works, especially in places like Rome and Naples where the fans have very high expectations. It’s right that they should have high expectations and you have to accept it but I think you also need to maintain a balanced view when you judge people and when you support your team. That’s important if you want to create a positive, winning atmosphere. The players, the coaching staff and the club are working really hard to achieve success and we’d like everyone to understand that we’re putting in maximum effort to get there so we need enthusiasm and passion from our fans.”
Does this win put Roma back in the Scudetto race?
“You shouldn’t really make any assessments until you reach the halfway stage because before then a couple of results can change everything. If you draw two games you can slip down the table so it’s hard to judge. Of course you don’t get many second chances and once they’re gone you have to make sure you don’t waste any more.”
