Hours after Serie A’s transfer market closed its doors, Italian journalist Damiano Giordano (@DamGiordano) evaluates the summer transfer market club-by-club and gives his final marks exclusively for Italian Football Daily
This session has reached its dreaded (or sweet?) end. The summer calciomercato is over, its doors closed, its fans have given it their arrivederci…until January. Italian football played the role of the protagonist in Europe with an astounding €600 million spent and some 752 players purchased by Italian clubs. It was a summer characterized by the usual soap operas, this year in particular featured the love story (that ended happily ever after) between Perisic and Inter, and the stories (with a sad ending) between Witsel and Milan, and between Draxler and Juventus.
The final day featured fireworks nonetheless. One above all is Hernanes’ passage to Juventus for €11 million from Inter. The latter was the absolute protagonist in the last day of the transfer window with three acquisitions: Adem Ljajic (from Roma), Felipe Melo and Alex Telles (from Galatasaray). In addition, Thohir’s club spent only €100 million for 10 players, a feat which averts punishment from Financial Fair Play thanks to its ability to sell well (Hernanes, Shaqiri and Kovacic) above alli. Mancini’s Inter gets a solid 8!
