Napoli player ratings vs Milan

Napoli came away 4-2 victors in what was an extremely hectic game at the Stadio San Paolo against Milan. Here is how we rated each Napoli player’s individual performances from the match:

Starting XI

Pepe Reina (5.5): The Spanish shot-stopper was very average in this game. He should have done a lot better on Niang’s goal. Also, Reina had a few dodgy moments with the ball at his feet and in punching the ball clear.

Elseid Hysaj (6): Hysaj had an amazing performance in the first half however, in the second half his play dipped. He was well on his way to around a 7 or an 8 on his performance rating however his second half performance didn’t allow it.

Raul Albiol (5): The Spaniard had a fairly shaky game today in the center of defense.  Raul could have done a lot better in controlling the defense and stopping Niang.

Kalidou Koulibaly (7): Kalidou was easily Napoli’s best defender on the night. He stopped a lot of Bacca’s play and kept the Colombian very quiet. He also was instrumental in distributing out of the back for the partenopei.

Faouzi Ghoulam (6): The Algerian was not at his best today but he had a few moments where he really sprung the attack down the left side. He could have done better defensively, however.

Allan (6): Allan was great in the first half however his play dipped a bit in the second. You can tell the Brazilian is not at full match fitness.

Jorginho (7): Jorginho showed exactly what Napoli were missing vs Pescara. The regista provided much needed tranquillity in Napoli’s midfield. He is essential to this Napoli side.

Marek Hamsik (6): Marek had a very good performance up until the last 10 minutes where he misplaced many important passes.  He could have easily had 2 assists in the last 10 minutes.

Jose Callejon (7.5): Easily one of Napoli’s best performers on the day. Besides his goal (the second officially ruled as an own goal), Jose was key to the match and Napoli’s attack down the right wing.

Arkadiusz Milik (7.5): Milik had a very good game today. The big Polish striker put two goals away in the first half and played off his teammates very well.

Dries Mertens (8.5) MOTM: Again, Mertens was instrumental today. He played from the first minute and didn’t stop running until he was subbed out. World class performance.

Substitutes

Vlad Chiriches (N/A): Did not play enough to gain a performance rating.

Piotr Zielinski (7): Great performance from the young midfielder. Spearheaded the attack on the third goal to give Napoli the lead. He is showing great signs of becoming a very important player for the partenopei.

Lorenzo Insigne (3): Came off the bench and straight away looked as if he did not want to be there.  Another lackluster performance from the hometown boy.
