Allegri: “We Approached the Game With the Right Mentality.”

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri was thrilled with his side’s humble approach to the game and hopes to continue in the same way.

Earlier in the season, Juventus were accused of dropping points due to a lack of humility and complacency. Today, against Empoli nothing of the sort would take place as the Italian champions would come back from behind to claim the three points. After the game, Allegri told Sky Sport:

“It was a very hard game but our intensity never dropped throughout. We conceded a goal on the first shot of the game but reacted nicely. We’re happy to take these three points before the international break.”

Where can the team improve?

“The approach was the right one. The goal we conceded was due to a ball that we turned over as we were breaking out. Defending with two defenders against three was then hard. Our play can still improve but we’re seeking to looking at things in a positive light. We are seventh place. Before the season started no one imagined this but we’re coming off two consecutive wins in the league and a positive result in the Champions League. We can’t only look at the negatives.”

Did Mandzukic play good?

“He did good and made himself available to his teammates. But so did the whole team. Marchisio, for example, is still recovering. Khedira also played even if he wasn’t feeling great.”

What changed after the loss to Sassuolo?

“I believe that in football, even in the difficult moments, you should never become hysterical and get overly anxious. Today, the players did good after the goal conceded because they remained calm.”

Where the comments from the veterans after the Sassuolo game helpful?

“Yes, in these moments they helped. It’s normal that Buffon, a person who feels responsible for himself and others, says certain things. However, after you have to back it up on the field and we must not think that we will win every game solely because we’re Juventus. We have to remain grounded and win games with humility.”

Morata tracking back with Laurini is nice to see.

“This, in my opinion, is normal and every player should do it. Football is weird. Inter have won seven games by a score 0f 1-0 and we’re conceding a goal on the first shot of games.”

Was your third goal offside?

“They told me. It happens. Today, I think the refs handled the game nicely.”
