Fiorentina, Bernardeschi: “I hope Conte was watching me”

Federico Bernardeschi scored a brace for Fiorentina as they tied Basel 2-2 in Europa League play.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, this is what he had to say:

“I am feeling good with all my teammates. I am saddened that we couldn’t get the win tonight. A victory would have virtually guaranteed us to go through to the next stage.”

“All we need now is a draw in our next game (at home at Stadio Franchi) so we are confident. It’s too bad we had the lead and there were also some questionable decisions by the referee.”

Bernardeschi then went on to discuss the national team and Antonio Conte. Although Conte has relied on veterans and has stated he will be loyal to the players that helped Italy qualify for Euro 2016, that didn’t discourage Bernardeschi from having a glimmer of hope for a callup with the senior team.

“I hope he watched the match. I am continuing to do well, I want to do better to show my true potential.”

Finally he spoke about Roncaglia, who was sent off after getting a red card for an elbow.

“He is a good lad, he made a mistake, these things happen.”
