Napoli and Inter go head to head in a top of the table clash

The two in-form teams in Serie A this season go head to head at the San Paolo, as Napoli face Inter.

It’s been said it’s a game of attack versus defence, with how both teams have set up this season under their managers and the League table has Inter and Napoli in first and second place.

League Form

Napoli WWDWW

13 points from their last 5 games has seen the Partenopei climb up the table to overtake Juventus, Milan, Roma and Fiorentina into second place.  Victories over Chievo, Palermo, Udinese and Verona and five clean sheets in a row.

Inter DWWWW

A two point gap over their opponents in the League, the Nerazzurri have also picked up 13 points from their last 5 games. Victories over Frosinone, Torino, Roma and Bologna, and three of those victories ended 1-0.

Previous Meetings

Napoli are unbeaten in their last nine matches against Inter, with the Nerazzurri last winning this fixture back in October 1997.

Last season, both games against each other ended in 2-2 draws. In this fixture last season Higuain and Hamsik had given the Partenopei 2-0 lead, before Palacio pulled one back and Icardi nicked a draw for Inter with a chipped penalty in the 87th minute.

Key Quotes
Maurizio Sarri
“We will never change our attitude or our football. Whatever the result, we’ll resume training on Tuesday the same way we left off.”
“If they are at the top after 13 weeks It means that it is not a coincidence. Inter will play their game, looking to win and we will do the same with our abilities.”
Roberto Mancini
“In these games the players have to give everything, Right now we’re ahead – we’re in first place and that’s very important.”
“Picking up a victory against Napoli would give us an enormous boost, but we always have to remember that there are a lot of games to come before it’s all decided.”
Key Player to Watch

Lorenzo Insigne

A lot of the discussion before the match has been about Higuain vs Icardi and how the Argentine duo are the two players to win the match for their teams. Lorenzo Insigne has been key to the way Napoli have started the season going forward in every way.

With 7 goals and 4 assists so far this season, the Italian magician has already bettered last season’s personal tally of goals.

Jeison Murillo

The Nerazzurri defender has been in excellent form since joining from Granada in the summer in a 10m euro deal. Alongside Miranda or Medel in defence the Colombian has hardly put a foot wrong and is one of the reasons Inter’s defence has kept nine clean sheets in 13 games, with man of the match performances against Juventus and Frosinone in recent weeks.

Up against Gonzalo Higuain, the two faced over for their countries as Colombia played Argentina and kept the “hitman” quiet throughout the match.
