Juventus run away winners in Turin thanks to a strong showing against the Pellegrini’s Sky Blue. Here are the main takeaways from the match, from a black and white standpoint:
3. Champions League Pedigree
Allegri’s “EuroJuve” brand was seen in the friendly walls of the Juventus Stadium today, once again. The bianconeri stayed true to their continental performances, playing their opponents without reverence, producing free-flowing football in the process.
Not finding the tactical exasperation usually experienced in domestic football (the last home game against Milan is a prime example) Juventus was able to find space which gave “free spirits” like Pogba the opportunity to express themselves.

Allegri’s team responded to critics of the initial 3-5-2 formation with a performance that superseded the bianconeri‘s most defensive set up. Lichtsteiner on the right and Alex Sandro on the left saw the return of the Juventus of old: tactically attentive, balanced, and sly.
Observers should be careful to distinguish this 3-5-2 formation to the chamaleonic 3-5-2/4-3-3 which featured Cuadrado in Lichtsteiner’s place, while the latter was injured.
Not all is well. While the bianconeri had a high passing completion percentage (88%) they still have to improve as this passing percentage dropped dramatically in the opponents half, and game play appeared confused at times – not all of which can be attributed to Manchester City’s ability to force errors.
The return of Lichtsteiner, the employment of a tactically stable formation, the dosed employment of no more than three new players were all foreseen in our piece Code Red for Juventus: Ills and Cures released after the bianconeri’s disappointing performance away at Sassuolo. Allegri and his men have since done what is was absolutely necessary: winning, sometimes at the expense of good game play.
