Garcia: “Deserved Win but the Empty Stands Were a Shame.”

Roma boss Rudi Garcia expressed his satisfaction at the result but laments the emptiness of the supporters stands.

Today, both Roma and Lazio fans boycotted going to the stadium leaving almost half of the stadium empty. Despite his team’s impressive performance, this left a bitter taste in Rudi Garcia’s mouth. He told Sky Sport:

“It’s a shame that we played without the full support in the stadium. The objective was to win and we did so convincingly. I liked almost everything today as the team showed moments of both collective and individual quality as well as organization and courage. We gave it our all, I’d like to congratulate my players. I’d also like to thank those who came to the stadium today. The supporters came to the hotel and we liked this. However, we need a packed stadium to support the team. ”

How is Salah doing and what are your thoughts on the penalty shot?

“The pictures clear. We have to protect our players. We hope that it’s not serious and there’s no fracture. If there’s no fracture, it’ll be a miracle. In regards to the penalty shot, it’s a question of millimetres. I prefer to talk about football and not specific moments in the game.”

Did you work in a particular way ahead of the derby?

“Today, there were seven new players on the field. Playing a derby isn’t like any other normal game. We focused especially on the tactical aspect of the game. The objective was to score in the first fifteen minutes of the game. Then, we sat back and decided to counter. A few of our players were criticized but they responded on the field, as usual. We did everything really well.”
