Spalletti on Porto match: “We want to take the game to them.”

Roma head coach Luciano Spalletti spoke in a prematch press conference ahead of the teams clash against FC Porto.

Spalletti talked about transitioning into this game and what he expects from his team ahead of their Champions League playoff second leg.

The Giallorossi coach has also confirmed several of his players wont be available due to injury or disqualification including Florenzi, Torosidis, and Vermaelen.

Spalletti on his approach to tomorrows game:

“We want to take the game to them, we’re not going to leave it to fate, we want to determine the result. We need to go out there with our heads high and try to win the game from the beginning, not wait for them to play it around our box looking to score.”

On his expectations for players:

“If we struggle dealing with fear, risk and danger then that means we’re afraid of dealing with success too, And if that’s the case for a player then they don’t belong at Roma. If they get nervous about a match they’ve wanted for eight months then they don’t belong at Roma. They should want to play it. They shouldn’t feel stressed about trying to manage the result. If they’re scared, they’re not for us.”

On Emerson:

“Emerson was a bit tense at the beginning looking a bit indecisive for his first two or three touches but after half time he did what he was supposed to do.”

On Strootman’s role for the rest of the season:

“My plan was to have him play 30, so he has another 27 to go.”

The first leg ended in a 1-1 tie at Porto, the second leg is to be held at Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Tuesday the 23rd.
