The Giallorossi spoke in a press conference ahead of Roma’s clash against Udinese.
Roma coach Luciano Spalletti made strong statements regarding his new look midfield. Many Roma fans were left wondering who would step up in the midfield, but coach Spalletti has stated that Kevin Strootman and Leandro Paredes are not only filling in, they’re better than the Juventus midfielder.
“We have Strootman to replace Pjanic and Strootman is better than Pjanic.” Said Spalletti, “We have Paredes to replace Pjanic and Paredes is better than Pjanic. The players we have are better than those that have left – that helps us progress, we’re in good shape.”
Spalletti also went on to speak about challenging Juventus for the scudetto.
We can’t choose anything, but if we could we’d choose victory. We want to win all our matches and overcome everything that comes our way. We have to take on Juventus, but also Napoli, AC Milan, Inter and Fiorentina. Don’t discard the other teams. Don’t start thinking they’re all worse than Roma – that’s a presumption I can’t allow. As I’ve said already, we’re a good side but we need to start being great straight away.”
The 57 year old coach returned to coaching in Rome after 7 years away from the club during which he coached Russian club Zenit Saint Petersburg.
