Caronnese Sanctioned For Fielding An Ineligible Player In Coppa Italia Loss

The RossoblĂș were hit with a 3-0 loss to Matera due to fielding an ineligible player in their Coppa Italia First Round match.

Although the verdict does not do any real damage to Caronnese as they had already been eliminated, their solitary goal and 2-1 defeat was erased and Matera were awarded 3-0 win by the Lega Calcio’s Sporting Judge. As reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, center-back Filippo Sgarbi was suppose to serve a suspension but still featured for Caronnese, thus nullifying the original result which was a 2-1 loss to Matera.

Below is the statement released the Disciplinary Committee:

The Disciplinary Committee, point out that the official records show that Caronnese fielded in the game, the disqualified player Filippo Sgarbi. The result is a sanction to Caronnese of a 3-0 loss.
