Donnarumma makes history with Italy call

The 17-year-old shot stopper was included in Ventura’s squad.

Gianluigi Donnarumma has become not only the heir apparent to Gianluigi Buffon, but also a history maker.

Most people his age are wondering what to wear in the morning on their way to liceo or high school. While Donnarumma has been playing with the Rossoneri first team since he was 16.

BREAKING: Ventura’s first Italy squad has been announced

He usurped Diego Lopez’s role and never looked back. If it were not for Carlos Bacca last year, he would have been Milan’s best player without discussion.

A player as young as Donnarumma hasn’t been called up to the Italy senior side since well before the World Cups were started. In fact, it’s been over 115 years since a keeper so young was called up.

Rodolfo Gavinelli, most likely somebody you never have even heard of, was 16 years old and 3 months when he received his first call.

For all intents in purposes, in the modern era Donnarumma has no equivalent. The heir to Buffon is another Gianluigi.
