Matchday 1 – Inter Player Ratings vs Chievo

Chievo Verona defeated Inter by a score of 2-0 in what was arguably the most shocking result in this opening weekend of Serie A. Here’s how we rated the players’ performance:

Starting XI

Samir Handanovic (5): Not at fault for either of the goals. Was completely let down by his defense’s abysmal performance.

Danilo D’Ambrosio (4): One of Inter’s worst performers. Was often caught having to chase players, unfocused in marking, and below average crossing.

Andrea Ranocchia (3.5): Undoubtedly Inter’s worst performer on the pitch. Aside from his poor defending, he failed to pick his team up by missing two clear chances.

Joao Miranda (5): Not his best performance, but definitely better than his defensive coworkers. Looked annoyed all throughout. Frustrating match for the brazilian.

Yuto Nagatomo (4): Another defender who just did not bring his best. Was easily exposed by Chievo’s attackers and had very little to contribute with on the offensive end.

Geoffrey Kondogbia (5): Looked very lively in the first half, was a bright spot for Inter on the physical side.

Gary Medel (5.5): Worked very hard on both sides of the ball. Brought the intensity to the middle of the field and did his best to shut down Valter Birsa and company.

Eder (4): Struggled to create chances and didn’t make the right decisions with the ball at his feet. Yet to reach his ideal fitness level.

Ever Banega (5.5): Solid performance by the veteran debutant. Showed flashes of his unparalleled vision in the midfield. A good sign for nerazzurri fans.

Antonio Candreva (4.5): Had a tough time integrating himself in the offensive end. Lacked a lot of fitness.

Mauro Icardi (4.5): Looked very lost and frustrated by the lack of service from the midfield. Performed better the moment Perisic was subbed in.

Substitutes

Ivan Perisic (5.5): Came on in the 61st minute and immediately brought Inter into the game. Was able to get Icardi more involved and brought a lot of intensity to the attacking third. Deserves a start next week.

Marcelo Brozovic (5): A little too many turnovers from the croatian but not a bad performance. Looked very involved in buildup play and provided the midfield with more defensive posture. Also worthy of starting next week.

Rodrigo Palacio (5.5): Showed a lot of hunger in attack and made Inter look more aggressive offensively. Positive sign off the bench.
