Napoli, Hamsik “We let Pescara play too much”

Napoli drew 2-2 against Pescara in Sunday’s season opener and were able to salvage one point. Napoli captain Marek Hamsik spoke to Premium Sport after the match where he voiced the team’s obvious problems, but also mentioned that it is just the start of the season.

On the team’s performance: “We let Pescara play too much; the ball came out well to their feet. In the first half we were too tight, but then we showed our character. The league will not be decided now. It was important to start well, but we were not able to win. However, we will take this point.”

On the play of Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne: “We have wingers that can put up double digits in regards to goals. Today (Mertens) demonstrated that, and other times it will be Lorenzo. Now we focus on Milan.”

On Gonzalo Higuain: “It’s normal that seeing him celebrate in a Juventus jersey affected me, but this is football.”

The Azzurri captain also spoke to Sky Sport after the 2-2 draw. Hamsik spoke about Pescara’s first half performance and how they deserved points from this match because of that. However, Sky also asked him about the penalty that was revoked in the match.

Hamsik responded: “I don’t understand how such a thing could happen. We move forward and we will see, but by now nothing can be done anyway.”

Napoli turn their attention to AC Milan next week as they have their first home match at the Stadio San Paolo.
