Jorginho is a player of many talents, and is playing extremely well at the moment. So why does Conte refuse to utilize a player that is playing so well?
The Brazilian-born Italian midfielder has been playing in Italy for the entirety of his career. Starting his career off at Hellas Verona, being loaned out to Italian Serie D side A.C. Sambonifacese, making a return to Verona, then ultimately ending up at Napoli. He has been a vital part of Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli this season and has shown he can play at the world stage. With that said, why does Italy manager Antonio Conte refuse to call him up? Could it be that he is considered an Oriundi (foreigner)? That can’t be it, Conte has called up numerous oriundi in the past. For example, Argentine midfielder Franco Vazquez and Brazilian forward Eder. It could also be that Jorginho struggled for the most part of last season, therefore Conte would like to see him play great for an extended period of time? Who knows, these are questions many Italian NT fans are asking at the moment and there are just no answer to those questions.
Jorginho has certainly shown he can play at a high level of football, look no further than his performances for Napoli this season so far. The playmaker has been a big part of Sarri’s system down in the south of Italy, and that doesn’t seem like changing soon. With 11 games played so far this season, it is clear that the tactician has his man to boss the midfield game in and game out. As of late, Jorginho has been the hub of Napoli’s ability to shift defense into attack. The best examples of this are the games against Chievo, Palermo and Udinese. He has been arguably Napoli’s man of the match for those three games and it is all down to Sarri’s trust and the raw talent Jorginho boasts.
Jorge Luiz Frello Jorginho, or more commonly referred to as Jorginho, is too much of a key player for Italian NT manager Antonio Conte to pass up on. He risks losing an important piece to Italy’s midfield for future tournaments, not just Euro 2016. With the recent news of Jorginho’s agent stating, “Rinaldi, the coordinator for Brazil’s NT, told me they’re following Jorginho because they like him a lot.” Whether his agent was trying to stir the pot and put pressure on Conte or if it was actually genuine is not the point. The point is that Conte cannot slip up on talent just because he needs to make room for the old guard. That doesn’t mean ommitting Buffon or Pirlo, that just means that Conte should be increasing the probability that a young Italian footballer has for playing on the NT. Not everyone is a Verratti, but world cup winning teams don’t have 11 world class players playing for them either. That is why Napoli’s hub in the midfield, Jorginho, should be given a chance to prove his worth on Conte’s Italy. Let the man play, Conte.
