Milan Snap Lazio’s Perfect Home Record

Milan dominate Lazio as they extend their winning streak to 3 games and move just 5 points from first place.

Without question Milan had their best performance of the season today. It took only 11 minutes for the away side to get their first chance, a shot from distance by Jack Bonaventura just over the crossbar. Ten minutes later Alessio Cerci had his shot saved by Lazio keeper Federico Marchetti after taking a deflection.

Milan kept the pressure on and finally broke through in the 25th minute when Andrea Bertolacci tucked away a Cerci rebound to give the away side the lead. Unfortunately Bertolacci would need to be replaced 10 minutes later after suffering an injury. Milan nearly made it 2-0 but Cerci’s shot hit the far post.

At halftime Lazio manager Stefano Pioli decided to make a change, replacing Ogenyi Onazi with Danilo Cataldi. Shortly after the 2nd half resumed Milan defender Alex was kneed in the head by his goal keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Brazilian defender was knocked unconscious and replaced by Philippe Mexes. Moments after entering the contest the French defender found the back of the net to double Milan’s lead.

Lazio’s first real chance came in the 68th minute when Senad Lulic attempted to chip Donnarumma, but the teenager was able to make the save. A few minutes later substitute Ricardo Kishna scored for Lazio, however the winger was offside. Lazio continued to put on the pressure, nearly scoring in the 78th minute but defender Mauricio put his header wide of the goal.

The missed opportunities would prove costly for Lazio as Milan caught them flat footed on a counter attack where Bonaventura threaded a beautiful pass that split the Lazio defense and sprung Carlos Bacca clear on goal. The Colombian striker took the ball around Marchetti to make it 3-0. Lazio scored a consolation goal in the 84th minute when Kishna beat Donnarumma on the near post.

It seems as though Milan have found their form and for the first time in 19 months they have a three game winning streak.
