Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri spoke to reporters today ahead of his side’s clash with Bayern Munich.
In his pre-game interview, the former Milan boss began by updating the conditions of some of his players,:
“Mandzukic and Khedira have recovered. They trained today. They are both doing well and will participate in tomorrow’s game with Bayern.”
Do you think Guardiola is thinking of something different? Vidal in defence?
“I don’t know what he’s prepared. I know only that tomorrow we will have to be much better than in Munich.”
When you were at Milan, you were always Guardiola’s equal. Are you thinking of those games?
“Guardiola is a great manager. He has transmitted his values to all kinds of players. Same philosophy but different players. We’ll need to have a great game.”
Would you be fine with the game ending 0-0?
“If I say yes, they’ll criticize me but it would be a good result all things considered. A lot of a team’s progression will be decided in the first leg here in Turin. It’s really important not to concede a goal. Our defence will need to be at their best. Like Gigi said before, it’s a round of sixteen clash that looks a lot like a semifinal.”
What are Juve’s chances of progressing? Is it 50 per cent like Robben says?
“Our chances can vary. I’m not clairvoyant, I don’t know how it’s going to go. For us, it’s an important test. For our young players and our veterans who have returned to playing well, it’s big. The first leg is more important than the second one in Munich. We have a good chance to do this.”
What are your thoughts after seeing the Italian teams play and struggle in Europe?
“The only Italian team with difficulty is Roma. All the others are in contention in their respective games. And, thinking of the Italian refs, I think they are among the best in Europe.”
