Napoli’s Spanish central defender, Raul Albiol, had a pre-game Europa League interview today along with Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri.
Albiol spoke about Napoli’s previous matches and the pressure leading into tomorrow’s crucial UEL match against Villarreal. Here’s what the former Real Madrid player had to say on the eve of the big match:
Is there a feeling of disappointment or anger after the Milan game because you deserved more?:
“We wanted to win, we wanted the three points, at the end we ended up drawing but there’s still a way’s to go in the Serie A. We are still on course for the scudetto, we are even on course to achieve direct qualification to the Champions League next year. There’s still 12 matches to go, every single one of them will be difficult and we need to stay calm, we must continue like this together as a team. We want to make the final of the Europa League, last year we made the semi final and this year we want the final. The Serie A returns this Monday however we aren’t thinking about that right now.”
On the pressure:
“We think of winning, nothing else, this talk of pressure is not true. We only think about winning all of our games, on the field, I think of nothing else but the win. We are on course for the scudetto dream and for direct qualification to next year’s Champion’s League, there hasn’t been any pressure higher than that ever before. We will continue in the same way.”
Napoli take on Villarreal in a crucial match to decide whether Napoli can make Albiol’s goal of making the Europa League final and legitimate possibility. They must surpass a 1-0 deficit handed to them from a beautiful Denis Suarez free-kick in the first leg of the tie.
