Gianluigi Buffon joined Massimiliano Allegri in his side’s pre-match press conference ahead of Juventus’ crucial clash with Bayern Munich.
The goalkeeper started the press conference by talking about the opposing number one. He told reporters,:
“I’ve seen a lot of good goalkeepers. I’ve had the fortune of seeing solid ones, reliable ones, and quality ones. And Neuer is one of them. He plays an unconventional game.”
What game do you expect tomorrow?
“I expect a complicated game. They are an extremely strong team without weak points. We are growing as a team, in these last four or five years we improved in Europe. We came in this game stronger in comparison to three years ago. Three years ago they steamrolled us but tomorrow will be different.”
What type of opposition are Bayern?
“They are a team who in the last five or six years dominated their country. They have always been one of the favourites to win it all in Europe. Even when it went wrong for them they went until the end. They are one of the strongest teams in Europe. We will look to go into the second leg with a chance to win it. It’s like a semifinal, in terms of the difficulty level of this game.”
On the draw with Bologna:
“Winning all the time isn’t possible. We have another game directly after the Bayern one.”
If you don’t win the Champions League or the league, what type of season would this amount to?
“We’re competitive in regards to everything. It’s our duty. It’s also normal if others win.”
Do you approach tomorrow with calmness and a touch of crazy?
“Ask the manager. (laughs) A bit of craziness is needed. We will look to play with just the right amount.”
Does laying with back three or four change anything? What about your clean sheet streak?
“It’s been a bit of time since I’ve conceded. We have a great defensive unit, who are diverse. We have a good defence and a good keeper. One thing is having players who defend well, and it’s another to have a whole team that works hard in the defensive zone. When we play with a back three, I’m more involved.”
How will it be to see Vidal again?
“He’s one of the exes of the game, like Coman. Arturo was a linchpin, a pillar of this team. It will be a pleasure to see him again. Coman was useful, he’s a young player with a lot of talent. Tomorrow they are the opposition and we’ll play them like that. When the referee blows the whistle at the end, we’ll all be friends again.
On Bayern Munich’s change of coaches:
“If they were in Italy, it would have an impact. But that’s a different thing and their manager was leaving three years ago when they beat us.”
Where have Juventus improved since the final in Berlin? How has it changed Allegri?
“Some players changed. Our experience diminished but we increased our energy. The manager did good to give guarantees which we needed after our difficult start. We have great potential for an important future.”
